My Dear Parishioners:

Again I thank you for all the prayers and spiritual benefits you have been sending my way for a quick recovery from my surgery.   I am quite impressed with the card shower of over 160 cards & notes from both St. Michael’s and St. Isidore parishioners.  And there is a great response from parishioners willing to help with rides to Bryan, Ohio, for the radiation treatments in January & February.  I should know more after December 18 when I go for a CT Simulation Process at the oncology center at Bryan.

Fr. Jacob Gordon should be settled in with his move from Toledo where he has lately been living during his sabbatical. As I mentioned previously, we are to provide him a place to stay.  So on Sunday afternoon, December 2, we checked out the old rectory at The Bend as a possible living quarters for Fr. Gordon.  Unfortunately when we checked it out, there was a high level of black mold covering everything on the first floor.  Before anyone could begin to stay in the house, everything, including the walls, tables & chairs would have to be either thoroughly cleaned or pitched out including all the rugs.  So that was a dead end.

Fortunately Fr. Eric Mueller, St. John’s Church in Defiance was so kind to offer Fr. Jacob

a place to stay for the next 6 months.   Actually, that was a “God-send”.  Now Fr. Jacob lives about half-way between both our parishes.  He is ready & willing to help in any way he can with Masses, Funerals, visiting the sick and parish events.  He wants you to have access to him by providing you with his cell-phone number: 567-224-1073.  His address is 510 Jackson St., Defiance 43512.  So we welcome Fr. Jacob to our parishes of St. Michael’s Ridge & St. Isidore.

A little over a week from today is the Solemnity of the Birth of Our Lord Jesus Christ.  I wish all of our parishioners a very Blessed & Joyful Christmas & a Happy New Year!

Fr. Bob Kill

“More than a Manger” Project – For the 19th year the St. Isidore Altar-Rosary Society is sponsoring its annual project called “More than a Manger.”  A baby crib will be placed in the Marysdale hall and a pac-n-play in the Delaware Bend vestibule to accept donations for the Community Pregnancy Centers of Northwest Ohio.  The event will continue through Advent. A needs list has been placed on the bulletin board at each site with extra copies on the table to take along while shopping.  If anyone would like to donate cash, please make your check out to Community Pregnancy Centers of NW Ohio or St. Isidore Altar-Rosary Society.  Thank you for your continued generosity to this annual event.

continuing to serve the People of God. Thank you for your generosity!

The Christo Rey Federal Credit Union announces that its second half 2018 dividend rate will be .65% to be paid on share savings account activity from July 1, 2018 through December 31, 2018.  Please give your passbooks to Cindy Siler for posting after January 1.

Christo Rey Federal Credit Union is accepting new members as well as deposits from current members for share savings accounts.  Share savings accounts operate similar to passbook savings accounts that are offered by other financial institutions.  There is daily access to your money, and the rate paid (.65%) is generally substantially higher than the rate offered for these types of accounts at other financial institutions.  There are no fees for small balance accounts and you may open an account with a minimum balance of $5.00.   These are great accounts for children or grandchildren, or to save money as an emergency fund.  Membership is open to all registered parishioners of St. Isidore Catholic Church.  Contact Cindy Siler at (419) 658-2707 for additional information or to open an account.

The next meeting of the Christo Rey Federal Credit Union will be Monday, January 14, 2019 at Marysdale at 7:30 PM.

Current loan rates at the Christo Rey Federal Credit Union are:

2019-2018 Cars & Trucks                                  3.0%

2017-2016 Cars & Trucks                                  3.5%

2015-2014 Cars & Trucks                                  4.0%

All other secured loans                          4.5%

Signature loans ($4,000.00 maximum)         11.0%

To obtain further information on financing through the Credit Union, contact Ted Czartoski at 419-769-6693 or Cindy Siler at 419-658-2707.

Note: The following document is a draft; the information contained within may be changed at the upcoming parish council meeting.

A regular meeting of St Isidore Parish Council was held November 29, 2018 at the Marysdale site with the following members present: BJ Kline, Steve Coolman, Greg Shininger, Jim Timbrook, Luke Shininger, Jaymi Gause, Peter Coolman, and Lisa Alberti. Rebecca Meyer and Rebecca Mansel-Pleydell were excused.

President BJ Kline called the meeting to order.

Minutes of the October 25, 2018 meeting were approved as presented.

FINANCE: Members indicated they had received a copy of the latest financial report from Melissa Moninger.  In her accompanying email the following was noted:

61100-Clergy Salary Expense-the amount for November represents payment made to priests helping during Father’s absence. Awaiting reimbursement from St Mike’s in the amount of $210.00.

63500-Travel-same as above. Awaiting reimbursement from St Mike’s for $89.30.

64600-Religious Education-the amount for November represents Confirmation materials ($209.40) and payment made to the Diocese for the leadership conference for Sarah Diaw ($195.00).

68200-Building/Maintenance Supplies-$556.97 of the amount for November was paid to Fitzenrider for work on the boiler at Marysdale. $313.67 of the November amount was paid to Brown Supply for supplies ordered by Barb Coolman for Marysdale.

69200-Diocesan Assessment-the amount for November was lower as previously stated, 2017 was paid off in October. The October amount was high due to the quarterly payment made for Protected Self Insurance. As previously stated, our total due is $4025 and we paid $974 in July and $1017 in October.

The finance report was reviewed and approved as presented.

Lengthy discussion ensued regarding the current state of our parish finances and the large loss we are currently showing for the year.

MAINTENANCE:  The water at the Bend site remains in compliance. The addition of a window to the penitential door of the confessional at Delaware Bend is complete. The roof leak on the Delaware Bend hall has been caulked and ceiling tiles repaired. Light fixtures above the altar at Marysdale have been replaced with new LED fixtures. A pew at Marysdale was fixed. We have been exploring different options for improved lighting in the Marysdale sanctuary.

CHRISTIAN FORMATION:  Peter is working on possibly getting Father John Curran for the 2020 mission.  BJ reported that Father Bob has canceled our 2019 mission 3/3-3/6/2019 due to his ongoing health issue.

YOUTH:  Caroling will be December 19. A request to cover the cost of pizza from the general fund following caroling was voted down following a motion by Steve (seconded by Greg). It was stated this cost should come out of the CYO account. The Christmas program will be December 24 at 4:00 pm at Marysdale. Five youth received their first reconciliation 11/14/18 with Father Poggemeyer (Paulding). On 11/28/18 The Culture Project gave a presentation on human dignity to 7-12 graders. This was very well received with an interest from the adults present in having them return to give a parent presentation.

FAMILY LIFE:  No report.

COMMUNICATION and SERVICE: No report.

LITURGY: No report. It was noted that the choir will no longer be receiving communion at the back of the church. Information regarding this change has been in the weekly bulletin.

OLD BUSINESS: The Bend land deed—Jim and Steve have both left messages with Ryan Breininger and are awaiting a response. Father Bob will be undergoing radiation treatment once healed from surgery. He has visiting priest coverage through December. There will be no week day masses while he recovers.

NEW BUSINESS:  None

The next parish council meeting is scheduled for Thursday January 24, 2019 at St Isidore Marysdale site at 7:30 pm.

Greg Shininger made a motion to adjourn with Peter Coolman and Luke Shininger seconding the motion. Motion carried. Meeting adjourned. President BJ Kline closed with prayer.

Respectfully submitted,

Lisa Alberti, secretary
