Adoration Chapel Hours Thanksgiving Schedule: The Adoration Chapel will re-open this Wednesday, December 4, at 6am. 

Family Christmas Breakfast – December 8 in the MD hall following 10am Mass.

The 2020 contribution envelopes are available to be picked up.  They will be at DB until Saturday, Nov. 30.  Starting Sunday, December 1, they will be available for pick-up at MD.  If you have any questions, please contact Melissa Moninger at 419-789-3780.

A Family Perspective: Today’s gospel reminds us the Kingdom of Heaven is not like Disney’s Magic Kingdom.  Admission to Christ’s Kingdom is paid with the currency of acceptance, forgiveness, attention to the poor, and love of one’s enemy.

“Around Our Parishes”

Rolls & coffee after 10am Mass at MD, provided by the Altar-Rosary Society with all donations going to the NWO Community Pregnancy Center in Bryan

“More than a Manger” Project – For the twentieth year the St. Isidore Altar-Rosary Society is sponsoring its “More than a Manger” project during Advent.  A crib will be placed in the hall at MD and a pack-n-play in the vestibule at DB beginning next weekend to accept baby items for the Northwest Ohio Community Pregnancy Center in Bryan.  All new baby items can be donated, but especially needed are baby wash, bath towels and wash-cloths, burp cloths, new clothes, combs and brushes, crib sheets, diapers (sizes 5 & 6), diaper rash ointment, dish/snack carriers, fleece blankets, forks/spoons, lotion, shampoo, sippy cups, sleepers, thermometers, and quilts for boys.  There are printed lists for your convenience in the vestibule at each site. Donations will be accepted through Christmas Day. If you prefer to make a donation by check, please make the check out to St. Isidore Altar-Rosary Society or NWO Community Pregnancy Center. As in the past, the Society will provide the rolls and coffee on December 1 and 15 with all free will donations going to the center.  

Work in Progress - Work is being done on the drainage system at The Bend site to try and solve the water problem in the basement.

Book Display - Please check out the display of great religious books on the rack in the church entrance.  Please take whatever ones you like and as many as you like. They would make great reading material for you this Advent Season as you prepare for the coming of our Lord and Savior.  These books are being offered FREE to you from the Defiance Knights of Columbus.

Many Thanks to everyone for the prayers, cheerful cards, and caring thoughts for Bob Vetter during his recent hip surgery.  He is home and healing well.

World’s Greatest Dishcloths are available for purchase by the St. Isidore Altar-Rosary Society for $1.75 each or 3 for $5.  The cloths are white with blue, green, or tan stripes. Contact Char Shininger if interested.

Area Events

K of C Pancake Breakfast – Next Sunday, December 1, 2019, at the K of C Hall on Elliott Road, Defiance, from 8:30am-11am. Meal price are: $7.50 for adults; $6.50 for senior citizens; $4 for children 6-12; free for children 5 and U. 


CELEBRATING SENIORS will be meeting on Tuesday, December 3, at St. John Catholic in Defiance.   We will have Rosary at 10:40, Mass at 11:00, followed by lunch for a free will offering.  The Varsity Blues, a Defiance High School musical group under the direction of Eric West, will entertain us.  Anyone 55 years and older is invited and welcome to attend.


First Friday Mass will be celebrated December 6 at 7pm at Domus Angelorum Retreat House, located at 21706 State Route 114, Cloverdale, OH. All are welcome. 

K of C Fish Fry – On Friday, December 6, 2019, at the K of C Hall on Elliott Road, Defiance, from 4-7pm. Eat In: Adult dinner - $10 with beverage; 6-12 yrs. - $4; 5 & under – Free. Carry Out: Regular dinner - $9.50 (Fish with 2 sides but no fries); 2 lb. “All Fish” - $16.00 ($22 with 3 sides (no fries)); all side dishes - $3/pint (no fries).  Menu includes Alaskan Polluck (fried in peanut oil), coleslaw, baked beans, corn, green beans, baked potato, French fries, mac & cheese, applesauce, cooked cabbage, salad bar, roll & butter, & beverage. Beer - $2. And until Lent starts, we have baked chicken strips. 

St. Augustine Parish, Napoleon –Dec 6, 7, 8 –Annual Christmas House.  Decorated Christmas trees and “glitzy” holiday gift items. Supper with Santa (Friday 5-7). Baked Steak Dinner (Saturday 5-7) Breakfast (Sunday 9-12).


Before the hustle and bustle of the holiday season, the Sisters of Notre Dame invite women ages 20 - 45 to step away for prayer and reflection at a FREE retreat!  Our Come & Be weekend is a chance to learn about the life, spirituality and mission of the Sisters of Notre Dame, while taking time for personal prayer and rest.  The retreat is being held in Chardon, OH from December 6 - 8, 2019.  Please contact Sister Jenny Zimmerman, SND at for more information!

The Domus Angelorum Retreat House, located at 21706 State Route 114, Cloverdale, will be conducting a retreat on the topic “Let him who is without sin among you be the first to throw a stone at her.” John 8:7 on Saturday, December 14.  The day begins with Mass at 8:30am with registration and Adoration following Mass. The day will conclude with Confession and Benedictions at 3:00pm. Retreat leader will be Father Herman Scherger. Cost is $10.00 per person and please bring a packed lunch. All are welcome.

Cathedral Convert Series - You’re invited to a free performance of the Cathedral Concert Series on Sunday, December 15, 2019 at 3:00pm. Join us for Christmas Carol Sing featuring The Cathedral Choir with Paul Monachino, director. Sing favorite Christmas carols in Rosary Cathedral accompanied by the historic E. M. Skinner organ, choir, strings, and brass. The evening light filters through stained glass as the cathedral is filled with the joyful sounds of Christmas!

March for Life in Washington, DC. Thurs., Jan. 23 -Sat., Jan. 25, 2020.  Two busses of college students, young adults and their families will leave St. Thomas More Parish in Bowling Green, OH, on Thurs., Jan. 23 and return Sat., Jan. 25. Catholic Charities Office for Life and Justice is leading the trip which includes two nights in a Washington D.C. hotel.
