With Gratitude - The family of Shirley Guilford would like to thank everyone who supported them during their mom’s illness and her passing. The kind words, the cards, flowers, memorial contributions, prayers. Father Jake who prayed with us, his frequent visits to the nursing home, the comforting funeral mass. Father Tony for his support. Also the Altar Rosary Society for leading the rosary.
A Family Perspective: Listen to Jesus in today’s gospel: “who humbles himself will be exalted.” It is not the occasional big events, but the daily humble routine of family life which creates bonds and relationships which last a lifetime.

What a wonderful CCD class last Wednesday night with the junior high and high school students in an open question and answer period! I am humbled, yet proud, as I watch our young people grow in their faith. Many thanks to our catechists for the job they are doing with our youth. God bless you!

*STEUBENVILLE REGISTRATION: January 6, 2020 is the registration day for Steubenville. Our 1st choice is June 26-28, 2020. 2nd choice is June 19-21, 2020. This is different from previous years. Cost is $212 for the conference and $10 for a T-shirt. We usually cover transportation costs & part of the conference cost through fundraising & donations. *Our 1st K of C Dessert Sale fundraiser is November 1, 2020, at the Fish Fry. Come out and support our youth going to Steubenville. Attention youth attending Steubenville, you will need to bring desserts to Marysdale by 3:30 that Friday or deliver to the K of C in Defiance by 4:30. We also need 2-4 helpers to serve desserts.

Adorers Needed: Please pray & consider spending an hour with Jesus. Ask your friends and neighbors to consider becoming substitute or regular adorers. We are in need of adorers at various times and especially during the night time hours. Altar Server Pizza/Bowling Party
The annual server's pizza/bowling party is scheduled for Nov. 3 at Defiance Recreation Bowling. Rides will be provided to and from the bowling alley. We will plan on leaving from the Marysdale Hall at 12:45pm and returning around 4pm. Each Altar Server will need to fill out a permission slip to attend. There is an easy option that you can utilize by contacting your local bank and they can help with setting up a payment to the church using Online Bill Pay. K of C Fish Fry – This Friday, November 1, 2019, at the K of C Hall on Elliott Road, Defiance, from 4-7pm. Eat In: Adult dinner - $10 with beverage; 6-12 yrs. - $4; 5 & under – Free. Carry Out: Regular dinner - $9.50 (Fish with 2 sides but no fries); 2 lb. “All Fish” - $16.00 ($22 with 3 sides (no fries)); all side dishes - $3/pint (no fries). Menu includes Alaskan Polluck (fried in peanut oil), cole slaw, baked beans, corn, green beans, baked potato, French fries, mac & cheese, applesauce, cooked cabbage, salad bar, roll & butter, & beverage. K of C Pancake Breakfast – Next Sunday, November 3, 2019, at the K of C Hall on Elliott Road, Defiance, from 8:30am-11am. Meal price are: $7.50 for adults; $6.50 for senior citizens; $4 for children 6-12; free for children 5 and U.

CELEBRATING SENIORS will be meeting on Tuesday, Nov. 5 at St. John Catholic Church in Defiance. We will have rosary at 10:40am, Mass at 11:00, followed by a meal which will include turkey and all the trimmings. Since this is the month of Thanks-giving, our program will be "Celebrating Thankfulness" with Deacon Mark Homier. Anyone 55 years and older are invited and welcome to attend. Retreat at Domus Angelorum Retreat Center - The Domus Angelorum Retreat House, located at 21706 State Route 114, Cloverdale, will be conducting a retreat on the topic “Eucharist as Sacrifice” on Saturday, November 9. The day begins with Mass at 8:30am with registration and Adoration following Mass. The day will conclude with Confession and Benedictions at 3pm. Retreat leader will be Father Herman Scherger. Retreat Helps Single Catholic Women Discern God’s Vocational Call
Are you a single Catholic woman between the ages of 19 to 35 and feel that God might be calling you to a deeper life of service and love? The Adrian Dominican Sisters invite you to a special weekend, “A Time to Discern: Come and See for Yourself,” November 8-10, 2019, at Weber Retreat and Conference Center on the Motherhouse Campus.
Participants will have the opportunity to meet other women discerning God’s call; learn about the life of a Sister, and in particular Dominican life; tour the Motherhouse; engage in conversation with Sisters; and join in the Sunday Liturgy. The event is free.

2019 Survivor of Suicide Day for those who have lost loved ones to suicide. Saturday, November 23, 2019, from 10am-2pm at St. John’s Lutheran Church, 23120 US Highway 6, Stryker OH 43556. Located at the corner of SR66 and SR6, south of Archbold. This is an opportunity for people affected by suicide loss to gather in their communities to find comfort and gain under-standing as they share stories of healing and hope.
